That’s cool to have at home. This is Sebastian Vettel’s racing simulator.
While Formula 1 drivers can be found on the track at the weekend, they don’t do much else during the week. Well, in a virtual world then. During the week, drivers train on a simulator. Often this is just at home so they can practice whenever they want. And this is the racing simulator of Aston Martin Racing driver Sebastian Vettel.
Building a simulator can be as crazy as you want. Vettel’s is very cool. The sim is made of a real Formula 1 car. The cockpit comes from the AMR21, that is the Formula 1 car of Aston Martin from 2021. It doesn’t just look bold. By making the appearance resemble the real car, it helps the driver to make everything feel familiar. The seat, headrest and belts, among other things, are also from the real car from 2021.
Sebastian Vettel has affectionately nicknamed his racing simulator Honey Ryder. It is a nod to the Bond girl of the same name from the James Bond film Dr. no. Vettel is a big fan of James Bond, which is why this apt name was invented. The sim was co-built by the company Pro Sim.
This weekend the virtual environment will be exchanged for the real thing. Sunday is the first-ever Grand Prix of the season in Bahrain.
