In France, approximately 2.3 million people suffer from psoriasis, a chronic and inflammatory dermatosis which manifests itself by red “plaques” covered with white scales, generally appearing in “flare-ups” on the elbows, knees and/or hands.
Psoriasis is not a contagious skin disease, but it does have a significant impact on daily life.
Thus, according to the “Objective Skin” survey conducted in 2018 by the French Society of Dermatology, 7 out of 10 patients consider their psoriasis to be embarrassing in their professional life, 10% of people affected by the disease report encountering difficulties within their married life, and nearly 15% feel impacted in their sex life.
Noémie, 19, “can’t take it anymore” from her psoriasis
To make the general public aware of the discomfort felt daily by people suffering from psoriasis, the France Psoriasis patient association has launched a vast poster campaign in the Paris metro, which will last from November 26, 2018 to December 2, 2018.
On the poster, we discover Noémie, a 19-year-old girl who suffers from psoriasis and who “can’t take it anymore”. Indeed, according to Inserm, approximately one third of cases of psoriasis appear before the age of 20, and the peak of onset of the disease is between 20 and 40 years of age.
“Let’s also remember that according to the WHO global global report on psoriasis, it is not the severity of the disease that causes exclusion, it is largely the way society reacts to it”, says Roberte Aubert, President of the France Psoriasis association in a press release.
