Three brands of smoked salmon, sold throughout France by the Carrefour, E.Leclerc and Monoprix brands are subject to a recall due to listeria contamination.
- Listeriosis is a rare disease in France, with approximately 5 to 6 cases per million inhabitants per year. This represents approximately 400 cases each year.
- Its main victims are individuals with a weakened immune system (treatment or disease), the elderly, pregnant women and newborns.
- Listeria resists cold. On the other hand, it is killed by the heat. It is therefore advisable to cook or reheat raw foods of animal origin or prepared meals to more than 75°C.
Be careful if you have bought slices of smoked salmon in recent days. The government website Reminder.Consumed warned on January 30, 2023 that lots of three different brands are being recalled due to the presence of listeria monocytogenes in the products.
Smoked salmon: how to recognize recalled batches?
The incriminated smoked salmon were removed from the shelves of supermarkets that offered them: Carrefour, E.Leclerc and Monoprix. However, some sachets were sold before the measure was implemented. It is therefore recommended to check the label before consuming the fish you have recently purchased.

Listeriosis: what are the signs of contamination?
Listeriosis is an infection caused by ingesting food contaminated with bacteria from the Listeria family. Symptoms of the disease can appear from 2 days to 2 months after contamination. Patients suffer from a fever, isolated or accompanied by headaches, body aches or even moderate diarrhea.
“Severe forms with neurological complications and maternal or fetal damage in pregnant women can also sometimes occur. Pregnant women as well as immunocompromised people and the elderly should be particularly attentive to these symptoms”warn the health authorities.
