Prices, engines, range … all about the new DS4 (2021)

[Mis à jour le 11/08/2021] The new DS4 was unveiled in early February, but it won’t hit dealerships until the end of the year. While waiting for the tests planned for this fall, Argus offers you an update on the French top-of-the-range compact sedan: its interior presentation, its technological innovations and its introductory price. Also discover our first duels against its main competitors, especially German ones.

A DS4, several atmospheres

Like the previous generation, in its restyled version (Frankfurt Motor Show 2015), the new DS4 is available in several atmospheres. However, DS did not go so far as to offer different body heights. So, the classic, Cross and Performance Line offers have exactly the same dimensions, including for ground clearance or height (the latter not being taken at the level of the roof bars, but of the shark-type antenna).

The technologies of the DS4 II

The new DS4 is not just an original style, it is also modern technologies such as a large head-up display, a personal assistant called the DS Iris System (see video below), or even a touchpad placed between the two passengers to control the infotainment screen from a distance. It will be necessary to see to use the contribution of this system. The DS4 will also be able to receive night vision, level 2 semi-autonomous driving assistance with speed adaptation on a curve, or even damping controlled by a camera (DS Active Scan Suspension). Matrix LED optics complete the equipment, depending on the finish.

The engines of the DS4

The second generation DS4 will be available with a restricted range of engines. Three petrol units are on the program (130, 180 and 225 hp), a single diesel
(130 hp), and a plug-in hybrid offer (225 hp). The car is only available with an 8-speed automatic transmission.. No full version is planned, however, the DS Extended Grip will be available on the Cross version, with M + S tires. The range will be expanded with a 100% electric version, but not before 2024.

The DS4 against its rivals

With its DS4, the French brand clearly intends to come and tease the top-of-the-range tenors: Audi, BMW and Mercedes. During our various matches against these German models, the compact DS has not been unworthy, on the contrary : the interior presentation is neat and if the supply of engines does not climb as high as that of the competition, it is more targeted, especially on the plug-in hybrid offer. In addition, with its Cross version displaying appendages of “city adventurer”, it can even face compact SUVs like the BMW X2 or the Mercedes GLA …

Price of the DS4: from 29,200 €

This is necessarily the question that annoys… Wanting to target the high-end inevitably leads to display salty prices. The French sedan starts from € 29,200, which may appear more expensive than the call prices of the main competitors (Audi A3: € 28,630, BMW 1 Series: € 24,850, Mercedes Class A: € 28,900) . However, these German versions start with low power engines and a much more limited endowment. But despite a catalog of nine finishes, the entry ticket to the DS4 is well supplied with equipment.

In the meantime, it is still possible to book the La Première launch edition, displayed from € 47,100, but very well equipped. In addition, it is possible to acquire the car for much less: the reduced models are from 6.50 € …
