Pink October is an annual breast cancer prevention campaign organized by the Ruban Rose Association. Beginner this 1e October, the goal is to educate women and encourage them to get tested. Reinventing ourselves for this 27e edition, Pink October offers a program entirely on the web, with the slogan “ all united by the same color “.
Fight against breast cancer
The prevention campaign for breast cancer takes place from 1e to October 31. Its goal is to raise awareness about cancer prevention and screening. Today in France, 1 in 8 women is at risk of developing breast cancer. Detected at an early stage, it can be cured in 9 out of 10 cases. The earlier the cancer is discovered, the greater the chances of recovery. Each year, 54,000 new cases are detected and nearly 12,000 women die in France. Breast cancer affects women of all ages: 10% of cases are women under 35. Donations help advance science and fund projects. Thanks to this operation, 250 medical projects are financed each year thanks to the 76 million dollars raised in the world. A total of 70 countries are participating in Pink October. Each year, Pink October usually organizes official races, auctions, bra drives to raise funds for medical research. Screening campaigns are delivered free of charge or reduced prices throughout France.
A connected program with various online activities
This month’s program, adapted to the current health crisis, reinvents itself and offers live activities. The launch of Pink October begins with the illumination of the Eiffel Tower. Then, races and online activities follow one another on social networks. The official Odysséa Paris race has been replaced by an online race, called the Connected Challenge, where participants run near their homes, fill in their routes and record their times on the Odysséa platform. Participants just have to print their bibs, choose the route and the date of their choice. Several races take place throughout France during the month, as well as many activities. For more information on activities in your city or to make a donation, visit the official pages ofOdyssea, of Pink Ribbon or from The League Against Cancer.
