Like the future 3008, the next Peugeot 5008 will be produced in France, in Sochaux to be precise, from 2024. Developed on the Stellantis group’s new STLA Medium platform, this Renault Grand Austral rival will be offered as a plug-in hybrid but not 100% electric.
The staff representatives of the Stellantis factory in Sochaux, in the Doubs, have been informed by their management that they will be responsible for producing the next generation of the Peugeot 5008, like that of the future 3008. The current models are already assembled there, the 5008 is also produced in Rennes (Ille-et-Vilaine).

The Peugeot 5008 in hybrid
The future Peugeot 5008, expected for 2024 and called P74 internally, will be based on the STLA Medium modular architecture of the Stellantis group, one of the four platforms of the STLA family recently announced by the French-Italian-American giant. This base developed by PSA will be multi-energy (thermal, mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid and electric). The 3008 will convert to full electric, while its big brother will bet on the rechargeable hybrid to compensate for the discontinuation of diesel. It will benefit from the new system combining an evolution of the 1.6 PureTech with the Punch Powertrain electrified dual-clutch transmission, which will take the e-EAT8 gearbox.

A five-seater 5008 for comfort?
On the design side, little information has so far leaked on the next 5008. According to some sources at Peugeot, the large SUV will be offered with seven seats, like the current one, but also in a five-seater configuration, offering generous roominess to rear passengers. This variation would be intended in particular to satisfy Chinese customers. Moreover, from the beginning of the project, only this latest version was on the program; hence the code name P74 (5-seater SUV) and not P77 (7-seater SUV). Peugeot changed its mind along the way, especially for the European market. Another certainty: the 5008 will share its new i-cockpit with the 3008. Maintaining the two vehicles on the Sochaux assembly lines for one more generation secures the future of the factory over this decade.
