After the 504 and 505 station wagons, specialist Dangel planned to follow up with a slightly more compact model: the 306 station wagon. A very realistic prototype both in terms of its cosmetic treatment and its technical bases was presented at the Paris Motor Show in 1998 Here is his story.
When we think of Peugeot Dangel station wagons, we immediately think of the 504 and the 505. Very rarely the 306. Indeed, thehe project of a Peugeot 306 station wagon 4×4 Dangel is much less known to the general public. This prototype was presented at the Paris Motor Show in 1998. At the time, the Alsatian manufacturer specializing in the transplant of an all-wheel drive on Peugeot models had no major novelty to exhibit on its stand. This project was therefore the ideal tool to illustrate the know-how of the company and demonstrate its sense of anticipation.

Remember that at that time, adventurer-style station wagons were not legion, apart from the Volvo V70 Cross Country, no one really occupied the ground. The Audi allroad quattro did not appear until 2000.

House dressing and realistic design!

The body fittings of this Peugeot 306 Dangel were made by the usual designer of Dangel, Camille Diebold (Diebold Design). The fender extensions and shields make the Peugeot compact station wagon style more virile. This work goes hand in hand with realistic technical modifications – therefore easily industrializable in small series – since these are, at the front, elements common to the Peugeot Partner 4×4 of the first generation. The latter was still at the prototype stage in 1998.

While the rear axle used the axle and the suspension arms of the Peugeot 205 4×4 and Peugeot 309 4×4 prototypes. This is reflected in the technical sheet by an 80 mm and 110 mm extension of the chassis for the entire vehicle by means of specific tires for off-road use.
“Ground clearance is 230 mm, which is enough to overcome a number of obstacles without being afraid of getting stuck in the ruts.“
For the anecdote, the vehicle exhibited at the Paris Motor Show in 1998 was powered by a 1.8 16v petrol engine of 112 hp. This station wagon was then put back into a 4×2 configuration, registered and then used by one of the daughters of Henry Dangel, the founder of the company.
