The association “Future generations” intends to file a complaint this week against the Ministry of Agriculture for endangering the lives of others. In question, five weedkillers and two insecticides which circulate on the market whereas the National Agency of Sanitary Safety (ANSES) considers them toxic because of their impact on health and the environment.
The complaint targets the manufacturers of these products and the State officials responsible for authorizing their release on the market. As part of this process, Future Generations also calls for the withdrawal of dozens of pesticides which are sold despite the unfavorable opinion of ANSES or for which the Directorate General for Food (DGAL) has recommended restrictions on use.
At the basis of this case are two letters from the director of ANSES, Marc Mortureux, to the director of DGAL, Patrick Dehaumont. These letters, sent in 2009 and 2012, deal with the maintenance on the market of products for which ANSES had issued an unfavorable or favorable opinion with restrictions. In the appendix, the President of ANSES has attached a list of around 40 dangerous pesticides. Génération futures has checked which ones are still on sale and has therefore decided to file a complaint.
