The two individuals, hired on an interim basis in several establishments, were arrested on September 13.
They served themselves directly in the pharmacy. A married couple of nurses in their forties was arrested by the police on Wednesday by the Pau police. The facts for which they are accused: repeated thefts of drugs in the health establishments where they worked. About ten thefts have been recorded.
The couple, living in the Hautes-Pyréenées, are accused of having stolen ampoules, capsules and drugs derived from morphine from pharmacies in hospitals in the region, reports France Blue. All, according to the accused, for their personal consumption.
Treaties for addiction
The two individuals do not appear to have organized a sales network. The ten alleged thefts were observed in five hospitals in Hautes-Pyrénées, Pyrénées-Atlantiques, and Haute-Garonne in which they carried out interim missions. Each time, only a few products were stolen.
The couple have been suffering from addictions for several years, and in particular are undergoing methadone-based substitution treatment. A treatment which, obviously, was no longer enough for them.
Not very discreet flights
The man and the woman have, moreover, not tried to cover themselves too much. They probably knew it: in hospitals, this type of drug is monitored, and boxes are counted. The security of establishments quickly made the link between their days of service and disappearances. Sometimes they were even caught red-handed.
The couple quickly confessed to the facts in police custody, insisting on the addiction and the fact that no trafficking was carried out. A position that seems to have convinced the investigators, according to France Blue.
The man and woman, who can no longer exercise their profession, have been released under judicial supervision. They will be judged on January 30th
