This Thursday, January 12, 2023, Eric Gandon, a 58-year-old naturopath, was indicted by the Tours prosecutor’s office (Indre-et-Loire) at the end of his police custody.
He is implicated for “manslaughter”, “endangering the life of others”, “abuse of weakness” and “illegal exercise of the professions of doctor and pharmacist”. His son Jérémy, 25, was also indicted: he participated in the organization of internships and the promotion of his father’s methods via a YouTube channel.
It all started in August 2021, when a 44-year-old woman died during a fasting course organized by the naturopath in a castle in Noyant-de-Touraine (Indre-et-Loire). A few days later, and following the opening of a preliminary investigation, Eric Gandon was banned from his internships by the Indre-et-Loire prefecture.
“Charlatans who take advantage of weaknesses to enrich themselves”
Justice now believes that the naturopath is involved in several deaths. Thus, in March 2022, a young woman suffering from liver cancer and “out of treatment” died, after having followed Eric Gandon’s training. And in July 2020, a sexagenarian died a month after taking part in an internship organized in Vendée while suffering from terminal cancer.
“It is imperative that the French are better informed about the risks they incur for their health when they participate in courses supervised by naturopathic charlatans, who take advantage of their fragilities to enrich themselves.“reacted Sonia Backès, the Secretary of State for Citizenship, on Twitter.
