For his 12th Pasteurdon campaign, launched last October, the Institut Pasteur raised two million euros. An amount equivalent to that of the 2017 campaign, which represents for the Institut Pasteur “a real satisfaction in a context where the collection of individuals fell in 2018 for all associations and foundations”.
One third of the Institute’s budget
The money raised by Pasteurdon (whose godmother is actress Alexandra Lamy) directly finances the research teams of the Institut Pasteur in Paris, specializing in biomedical research on viruses such as AIDS, the flu or Ebola, but also on cancers, brain diseases and cardiovascular illnesses. Public generosity represents a total of one third of the Institut Pasteur budget.
“Two million euros, this makes it possible to finance two research units for one year, and to advance the discoveries made in the field of the fight against cancer or in that of neurosciences” emphasize the researchers.
A new dimension for research
Last year, the collection of Pasteurdon, added to that carried out throughout the year from individuals and patrons, contributed to the financing of the installation of the very high resolution microscope Titan and the construction of the OMICS buildings, which open up a new dimension for the Institute’s research in big data and artificial intelligence.
These donations also make it possible to finance research teams, whether in the fight against resistance to microbial agents, in deciphering the functioning of the brain, or in the fight against the various forms of cancer, with in particular the inhibition of the action of carcinogenic bacteria
Note that Alexandra Lamy, will again engage as godmother for Pasteurdon 2019 which will take place from October 10 to 13.
