Although all healthcare services in Parisian hospitals will be “provided as in a normal summer” during the Olympic Games, the AP-HP indicates that access to certain establishments will be partially limited.
- The AP-HP assures that “all care services” in Parisian hospitals “will be provided and accessible”, but calls on patients to “anticipate” certain occasional restrictions on access and movement.
- Access to certain hospitals (on foot, by bike or by car) will be restricted, on an ad hoc basis, before and during the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games (July 26 from 1 p.m.), as well as during road events (cycling, marathon, etc.).
- The hospitals concerned are: Hôtel-Dieu, Pitié-Salpétrière, Georges-Pompidou, Sainte-Périne, Armand-Trousseau, Saint-Antoine, Rothschild, Robert-Debré, Lariboisière, Cochin, Broca, Tenon, Saint-Louis, Necker.
While the period of the Olympic and Paralympic Games risks increasing the pressure on Parisian hospitals, already usually under pressure in the summer, the Assistance publique-Hôpitaux de Paris (AP-HP) wants to be reassuring. In a communicated published Friday July 16, she claims that “all care services” of the group’s 38 healthcare establishments “will be assured and accessible”, while calling on patients to “anticipate” certain occasional restrictions on access and movement.
Enhanced healthcare services to take into account the “constraints” linked to the Olympic Games
“Care will be provided as in a normal summer, some services have been reinforced to take into account the number of people” And “special constraints”writes AP-HP. During the Games, the supply of beds will be around 10% higher than in a typical summer in the twenty or so most exposed hospitals in the Paris region. “The emphasis is on unscheduled care” And “on certain specific sectors” such as mental health and perinatality, she specifies.
Home care and services will also be guaranteed, with professionals having “made arrangements to access all areas”. No AP-HP hospital is located in the immediate vicinity (red perimeter) of an Olympic or Paralympic site, “the general rule is that access does not require a ‘Games Pass’ to access it whether by vehicle, on foot or by bike”according to health authorities.
Access to some hospitals will be temporarily restricted
However, access to certain hospitals will be restricted, on an ad hoc basis, before and during the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games (July 26 from 1 p.m.), as well as during road events (cycling, marathon, etc.). On his sitethe AP-HP details the list of hospitals concerned (Hôtel-Dieu, Pitié-Salpétrière, Georges-Pompidou, Sainte-Périne, Armand-Trousseau, Saint-Antoine, Rothschild, Robert-Debré, Lariboisière, Cochin, Broca, Tenon, Saint-Louis, Necker) and the dates and times of the traffic restrictions.
For example, the Hôtel-Dieu Hospital, located in the “gray perimeter”will not be accessible at all during the opening ceremony. And before that, from July 18 to 26, it will only be accessible upon presentation of the “Games Pass” and an identity document, including for pedestrians and cyclists. The Pitié-Salpêtrière, Georges-Pompidou and Sainte-Périne establishments, for their part, “Red zone”are also affected by motorized access bans from the 18th to the 26th.
During the road trials, “access to a red perimeter will be possible on foot, by bike and by public transport without supporting documents”but prohibited in vehicles for individuals – except in exceptional circumstances if no other means of transport can be used.
The AP-HP generally recommends avoiding using your personal vehicle. In case of emergency, it advises patients to call 15, which will be able to direct them to the most appropriate care service (doctors in town, health centers or hospital). Finally, note that throughout the Games, the hospital center is making available on its website a “Frequently Asked Questions” which will be frequently updated.
