According to the World Health Organization, ovarian cancer epithelial is the most common ovarian cancer and has a survival rate of about 40% at 5 years. As the majority of patients (80%) do the experience of a relapse After their chemotherapy treatment, scientists are looking for a more effective form of treatment.
This is how researchers at the University of Kamumoto, Japan, isolated one of the compounds in onion, called onionine A, which is believed to have anti-ovarian cancer properties.
Their research published in Scientific reports, show that this compound reduces the progression of malignant cancerous ovarian tumors by interfering with the pro-tumor function of myeloid cells. In addition, they found that onionine A enhanced the effects of anti-cancer drugs by increasing their anti-proliferation abilities.
In an experiment conducted on mice, Japanese researchers showed that Oavrian tumors decreased and that rodent life expectancy increased. They conclude that onionine A could find its place in complementary treatment patients with ovarian cancer.
