Osteoarthritis of the knee: relieve pain and preserve joint flexibility
How is osteoarthritis of the knee treated? The treatment of knee osteoarthritis begins with analgesic and / or anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) to relieve pain. In addition, injections of hyaluronic acid (or “visco-complementation”) can be offered to patients in order to lubricate the worn joint; physiotherapy is also very interesting to maintain joint flexibility and slow down the progression of the osteoarthritis disease as much as possible.
Against osteoarthritis of the knee: movement! Contrary to popular belief, it is necessary to move to slow down osteoarthritis disease: in fact, movement allows good vascularization of the tissues and helps to reduce the symptoms of knee osteoarthritis (pain, stiffness, etc.).
The best sports recommended by physiotherapists are: walking, cycling, stepping, swimming and aquabiking. We add muscle strengthening exercises, to be practiced as often as possible (at least 2 sessions per week): squats, lunges…
