Based on scientific studies showing the benefits of certain foods (those that nutritherapists call “healing foods”), it consists of improving the daily functioning of our metabolism and, more generally, of our body, and thus preventing some diseases. For example, it uses food from cretan diet, studies having confirmed the positive long-term effects against the appearance of cardiovascular diseases. Similarly, we know that the prevention of colorectal cancer, in particular, is linked to a high fiber intake: the high consumption of fruits and vegetables, whole grains and legumes, recommended by nutritherapy, again goes in this direction. In other words, the doctors-nutritherapists believe that it is better to prevent than to cure, by means of a proactive diet and, when necessary, with the support of food supplements.
And on the healing side?
Nutritherapy can be a solution without the addition of chemical drugs to small everyday ailments, such as digestive disorders, insomnia transients, stress and anxiety, skin problems, improvement of the immune system. However, dietary advice, the reduction of deficiencies (iron, magnesium, etc.) cannot do everything, and certain diseases obviously require appropriate medication and care.
Should we be wary of certain practitioners who promise miracles?
Certainly. Flee any nutritherapist who would try to make you adhere to a belief, to a way of thinking according to which you should, for example, stop the drug treatment prescribed by your general practitioner, in favor of a particular diet associated with taking supplements food.
