It was at the hospital in Pisa, Italy, that Giacomo Schinasi and Cinzia Stracquadaini met 5 years ago. She is a nurse and he is the secretary and administrative manager of the local Jewish community. Suffering from acute renal failure, he goes to the hospital 3 times a week in order to benefit from dialysis. These moments were an opportunity for them to get to know each other and … to fall in love! “I remember the first day I saw him, I immediately felt his anxiety, his worries, his doubts” says Cinzia to La Nazione.
A secret romance
These two lovebirds preferred to hide their relationship. “For a long time, we were careful not to show the feeling that united us,” says Cinzia. It was then that in 2014, she learned that these kidneys were 99% compatible with Giacomo’s body. Without hesitating for a second, she decides to donate it to him. The transplant went smoothly in July 2014, and Giacomo was quickly back on his feet. This story, worthy of a romantic comedy Hollywood could have stopped here, but a final twist comes to close this modern fairy tale: Cinzia and Giacomo have just said “yes” at the end of January, for better or for worse.
