Frozen bananas mashed into ice cream
Ever heard of ‘nice cream’? It’s a healthy variation on ice cream and you only use one ingredient. Frozen bananas and a good blender or food processor are all you need. Healthy ice cream without an ice cream machine! With nicecream you can vary endlessly. We give some tips.
Nicecream is healthier ice cream without added sugars, made from (over)ripe, frozen bananas. Pureeing it frozen in a blender or food processor gives it a creamy, thick texture. This trick could work with other frozen fruits as well, but the texture won’t be as creamy as the banana and will be more like sorbet ice cream. Also delicious natural and perfect as a cooling snack.
Where does the name nicecream come from?
Nicecream is similar to the English translation of ice cream: ice cream. The N can be either from the word banNana come, to be in addition to the word nice (fun) to make. The term originated between 2018 and 2019, when nice cream gained popularity.
Endless variations with nice cream recipes
With nicecream you can vary endlessly. To thin it out a bit, you can add a dash of (vegetable) milk, but that could also be done with a shot of espresso or some lemon juice. You can add all kinds of fruit to taste: the banana flavor hardly dominates, so you can adjust a lot in the taste. For example, add some (frozen) mango, or fresh strawberries and blueberries. To make it even healthier, you can also go for sweet or mild-flavored vegetables, such as boiled beetroot, cucumber, zucchini or boiled cauliflower. It is also nice to add some nut or seed paste. The possibilities are endless, but we’ve listed our favorites. The recipes are for 2 servings.
