New Gmail look continues to roll out

Since February, Google has been rolling out a new look for the e-mail service Gmail, which more people will now have to deal with.

The new design packs the various elements of Spaces, Chat and Meet into a new design, while Gmail itself gets more Material You design elements.

From now on, the new design applies opt out is† If you come across it in your own environment, you can manually switch back to the old design. Previously, the new design was opt-in and you could choose to make use of that new design.

New look for Gmail

In general, the Gmail experience will not change significantly, but some things will work slightly differently from now on than you may be used to from the service.

From now on you will no longer find all individual elements in the standard Gmail menu. The parts are listed in a menu to the left of that interface, in the form of up to four buttons.

Each section (Mail, Spaces, Chat and Meet) has its own button. When you press one of the buttons, you get access to the options and parts of that specific function.

Ultimately, this should offer users more overview, without having to compromise on functionality. Either way, chances are you’ll be dealing with the new design from now on.
