The app from video streaming service Netflix offers a link to an external page where users can sign up.
Previously, apps, in the App Store, were not allowed to do that. That went against the guidelines. This allowed them to circumvent the commission of platform holder Apple and that company did not like that.
But a judge has ruled that Apple must allow this, which means that at least a special category of apps can now offer external links. Netflix and Spotify, among others, fall under that category.
Create an account with Netflix
When you first downloaded the Netflix app on iOS or iPadOS, you should have already created an account. Because you didn’t find any references to that within the app; but now yes.
When you tap on the link to the external page, you will see a warning. In addition, you read that Apple is not connected to any payments you make outside an app.
If you click away that warning, you will arrive at a page of Netflix where you can create an account. You fill in your details, choose a subscription and you can start watching right away.
