Eczema or atopic dermatitis affects around 2.5 million people in France, adults and children. It is a complex disease that combines an abnormality of the skin and a very reactive immune system. It often develops in families where there is already an allergy (we then speak of atopic family land).
What to do when your skin itches
• Water is the best skin rebalancing agent. Spray thermal water in a spray or moisturize with a compress soaked in salt water with unrefined salt (Himalayan salt type) .You can also soak the hydrosol compress of German chamomile (matricaria) which sanitizes the skin and soothes itching.
• Sprinkle the skin with white or green clay powder. This promotes healing and soothes redness.
• In case of eczema, it is advisable to take showers rather than baths. But several times a month, still take an oatmeal bath. Oats have emollient, calming and soothing properties for irritated or itchy skin.
- The house recipe : infuse 250 g of oatmeal in a liter of hot water, filter and pour this milky water into the bath. Stay there for 10 to 15 minutes.
- The simple version : Buy sachets of colloidal oatmeal powder in an organic store and pour in the hot (but not too hot) water of the bath.
What can be done to hydrate the skin
Eczema is characterized by an alternation of inflammatory flare-ups and periods of remission during which the skin remains dry and irritable. It is therefore necessary to provide it with lipids and water to restore the skin barrier and limit flare-ups.
• Every day, a few drops of borage, calendula or avocado oil, rich in essential fatty acids, on eczematous areas ensure that hydration is maintained.
• Aloe vera is an excellent emollient which promotes the healing of eczema patches.
- The house recipe : in a bottle, mix 50% aloe vera gel with 50% oily calendula macerate. Shake this mixture well before each application to emulsify it well. Store this mixture away from light and heat and use it within 3 weeks of making.
