The opening Movember campaign focuses on men’s inactivity, which can increase the risk of developing certain diseases, including male cancers.
This year, we are moving for Movember ! The famous campaign for the month of November, which aims to raise public awareness about men’s health, places particular emphasis this year on the problem of inactivity among men. In France, less than one in two men practice sport on a regular basis. However, this sedentary lifestyle can be the cause of serious diseases, in particular cardiovascular pathologies, cancer or obesity.
Movember has become known for the mustaches that its participants grow, in order to provide support to the sick. However, this year, men and women will be able to participate differently, by raising a sporting challenge called “Move” precisely to remedy the lack of activity. It is about practicing a physical activity every day, until the end of November.
A sporting challenge
For the organizers, the idea is to fight against the ailments that affect men, in particular testicular and prostate cancer, by promoting simple actions to be carried out. Not moving is a real risk for men’s health in the long term.
The instigators of these operations hope to raise funds to finance simple projects that encourage men to move differently, beyond traditional activities.
Mark Leruste, Head of Movember France, contacted by Why Doctor, explains that the campaign must also fund innovative research aimed at better understanding the risks associated with physical activity.
