December 14, 2016.
Infections by the AIDS virus have stagnated since the beginning of the 2010s. This is not the case for other diseases, less known, and which claim more and more victims in France.
Homosexual men particularly affected by this epidemic
If infections by the AIDS virus seem to have stagnated for several years in France, other sexually transmitted infections seem to be spreading more and more, and especially among homosexual men. This was recently revealed by figures from Public Health France and the National Public Health Agency, which produced statistics on the occasion of World AIDS Day.
These figures confirm that the number of HIV seropositive discoveries was estimated at nearly 6,000 in 2015, almost as many as in 2011. ” Men who have sex with men (MSM) and heterosexuals born abroad (¾ of whom were born in a country in sub-Saharan Africa) remain the two most affected groups and represent respectively 43% and 38% of discoveries in 2015 », Thus indicate the two organizations.
Early detection of these STIs should be established
Other sexually transmitted diseases such as syphilis, gonococcal infections or lymphogranulomatosis venereal-LGV, are experiencing a real explosion, and especially among homosexual men.
In their report, the two organizations are concerned about this finding and consider it essential to establish early detection of bacterial STIs, followed by appropriate treatment, so that the transmission of these diseases is interrupted as quickly and efficiently as possible.
