The midwives of the Collective are taking to the streets again this Wednesday to ask for the status of hospital practitioner. For its part, the intersyndicale wishes to remain in the public service.
The midwifery march continues! While the profession has been on strike for 4 months now, these health professionals will once again be in the streets of Paris, and in front of the Ministry of Health on Wednesday, to express their discontent. At the call of the Collective (1), these women fully intend to push the Minister of Health, Marisol Touraine, to quickly take a decision concerning the future of the profession.
A medical status or nothing for the midwives of the Collective
This delegation calls, first of all, “for a health course for women who are pregnant or not, with the midwife positioned as a first-aid practitioner in practice. “Then, they wish to obtain” the creation of a medical status of hospital practitioner SF in the hospital (therefore the exit of title IV of the Public Service), and the registration of the profession of midwife in the 6th part of the Public Health Code with the other medical professions. ”
“We refuse the status of an” intermediate “profession, which will only have medical adjective! », They indicate in their last press release. Finally, these professionals require a salary commensurate with skills and responsibilities. As a reminder, while they have a bac + 5 with a first year of medicine, midwives are paid as bac + 2 and a half, with not even the basic salary which corresponds to a license level.
A profession very divided on the “new” status
And on this last point, the midwives of the Collective are supported by the CGT, CFDT, FO, Sud and Unsa unions of the hospital public service (FPH) called last Thursday the Minister of Health, Marisol Touraine, to render an arbitration on the status of midwives in the hospital, “in order to open up in the wake of salary negotiations. “
Because the inter-union defends for its part the maintenance of hospital midwives in the FPH. Moreover, according to this same inter-union, surveys carried out in recent weeks in large hospitals reveal that, “wherever midwives have voted, between 80% and 96% wish to remain in the FPH. ”
“This is particularly the case at the Kremlin-Bicêtre hospital (AP-HP, Val-de-Marne), one of the most affected by the midwifery strike, where 96% of them would like to stay. in the FPH, ”Annie-Claude Ottan, CGT union delegate midwife, told the medical press agency. For them, the PH status “implies great job insecurity, great national mobility and a disadvantageous pension scheme. “
For the minister, midwife is a medical profession
For her part, the Minister of Health declared on France Inter that “the new statute [à l’hôpital] take into account the demand for recognition of midwives and the proper functioning of the hospital community. Regarding their medical responsibilities, they will be recognized, there is absolutely no doubt on this subject. They are medical professions, ”she concluded.
