Marisol Touraine has decided to create, in the public service, a medical status at the hospital for midwives. The Collective who wanted the status of hospital practitioner is very unhappy.
On the future of the midwifery profession, Marisol Touraine has finally decided. This morning, during a press conference, the minister announced the creation of an “independent medical status for hospital midwives. This new status will be accompanied by an enhancement of the medical skills of midwives, as well as an improvement in their training. Finally, the government has already promised an increase in the remuneration of these professionals.. “ This last element will be discussed during a consultation which will start in April ”, says Annie-Claude Ottan spokesperson for the intersyndicale CGT, CFDT, FO, Sud and Unsa contacted by why actor. And the latter to add: “We have already indicated to the Minister that the date of this negotiation was too distant. “But for this midwife at the Montpellier University Hospital, the minister’s announcements are already a satisfaction,” especially the fact of remaining in the hospital public service. “
Listen to Annie-Claude Ottan, CGT midwife at the head of the intersyndicale: ” We are happy with this announcement. Except the absence of the medical responsibility by the midwives of the structures of support of physiology on which we will return… “
Because for these professionals, the status of “Hospital Practitioner” (outside the civil service) demanded by the Collective (1) “implies great job insecurity, great national mobility and a disadvantageous pension plan. “
The collective dissatisfied with the announcements
A point of view not shared by Caroline Raquin, president of the ONSSF (2), at the head of this collective. Since October 2013, her delegation has been calling for “a health course for women who are pregnant or not, with the midwife positioned as a first-aid practitioner in practice.” “But above all,” the creation of a medical status of SF hospital practitioner in the hospital (therefore the exit from Title IV of the Public Service), and the inclusion of the profession of midwife in the 6th part of the Code of Public Health with the other medical professions. “In a press release published yesterday, the Collective was firm:” We will refuse any status of “intermediate” profession, which will only have the adjective medical! In other words, they wanted an end to their current status as a paramedic.
As a result of the races, the tension in the maternity hospitals is still likely to rise a notch after these announcements which still do not make midwives equal to doctors and dentists, who themselves have a staut of hospital practitioner. And according to Caroline Raquin, until yesterday, the movement was very followed. According to his estimates, 60 to 70% of maternity hospitals are on strike at the moment.
