MG presents a new SUV, called One. This announces a new platform and new design elements for the brand. It could find its way to Europe with a hybrid engine in 2022. It would be the fifth model in the range with the ZS, EHS, Marvel R and MG5.
The Sino-British manufacturer MG, owned by the SAIC group, has just presented a new SUV called One in China. The vehicle is based on a novel modular architecture called SIGMA. First announced for the Middle Kingdom, it could later join the brand’s European range.

A “big” compact SUV at MG
The style of One is dynamic. Its tapered front lights and sloping hood are reminiscent of the Ford Focus and Kuga, a wide grille brings aggression to the bow, the sides have marked reliefs, and the height of the side windows is relatively low. At the rear, there is a protective ski and two large openings mimicking exhaust outlets in the shield. The MG One measures 4.58 m long, 1.87 m wide and 1.60 m high with a wheelbase of 2.67 m, dimensions that would place it in competition with the Ford Kuga, but also with the Citroën C5 Aircross or the Renault Kadjar. No photo of its interior has yet been published.
An electrified MG One for Europe?
MG has not yet announced the engines that will be offered for the One, but some leaks from Asia announce a 1.5 turbo petrol unit of at least 170 hp. And MG indicated that the SIGMA platform was designed for electrification. If the One landed on the Old Continent, it would be probably offered with exclusively electrified mechanics. A plug-in hybrid powertrain would be expected. The presentation of a possible European MG One could take place in 2022.
