Preview in full test on the snow, the prototype of the Mercedes EQE SUV announces the imminent arrival of an electric cousin of the GLE. The model, already imagined thanks to an illustration, resumes logically.
[Mise à jour le 26/10/2021] Mercedes’ EQ electric range keeps getting bigger and bigger. After the EQA, EQB, EQC, EQS and EQT, a sixth model will join this 100% “zero exhaust emission” range. Like the EQS, the future Mercedes EQE will be available first as a sedan (close to the E-Class), then as an SUV. This one, which will coexist with the thermal GLE, is already imagined by an illustration after the study of prototypes crossed by spy photographers.
The interior and technology of an S-Class
Inside, the Mercedes electric SUV will take over the new second-generation MBUX architecture, introduced by the S-Class since 2020. The advanced system, made up of screens across the entire EQS dashboard and called Hyperscreen, could also be offered, at least as an option. In the equipment catalog, the EQE SUV should deploy a wide range of driving aids and useful features, such as the rear-wheel steering offering a significant steering angle, as on the limousine.
The Mercedes EQE SUV will be presented at the end of 2022, well after the EQE sedan, which was unveiled at the Munich Motor Show in September 2021. It will be marketed in spring 2023, production is planned at the Tuscaloosa plant in the United States. Like other electric Mercedes, it will offer different versions with one or two electric motors (propulsion or 4Matic all-wheel drive). Two battery levels should be on the program, with net capacities of 72 and 90 kWh, offering ranges of between 500 and 650 kilometers. The range should even include two sports versions, the AMG EQE 43 and the AMG EQE 53.
