Children from a school in the Médoc have been showing gastrointestinal disorders since Sunday. The analyzes suggest a bacterium.
In Macau, in the Médoc (Gironde), the children of an elementary school have developed digestive disorders since Sunday. Of the 260 students of the establishment, about fifty are victims of gastrointestinal problems, reports the regional daily South West.
Four dehydrated children had to be hospitalized, but the Regional Health Agency of Nouvelle-Aquitaine is reassuring. “These conditions do not pose major complications,” she said in a statement.
Water bottles and wipes
Since Monday, tests have been carried out to detect the origin of the infection. The sample dishes from the canteen are scrutinized, as is the tap water. The first results suggest a bacteriological track, without further details at this stage, in particular on the agent which could have infected the children.
“Investigation questionnaires, aimed at listing the foods consumed in the canteen, the date of onset of the first signs and symptoms, were distributed to families. The results will be analyzed by Public Health France ”, indicates the ARS in its press release.
While waiting to better understand these events, the town hall distributed water bottles to the school, to prevent children from drinking tap water. “Since Tuesday, we have set up a cleaning of the premises and each teacher has received disinfectant wipes”, specifies 20 minutes Valérie Talou, Director General of Services at Macau City Hall. Analysis results are expected on Friday.
