Increase health check-ups in nursery school and home visits: the government has just announced that it will dedicate an additional envelope to support maternal and child protection services (PMI), underlines AFP, in a dispatch taken up by the Figaro.
Adrien Taquet, the Secretary of State in charge of child protection insisted on the need to refound the PMI to act “from the youngest ageagainst health inequalities.
The PMI is “neglected by the state and health insurance” according to Michèle Peyron, LREM deputy, who wrote a report on the question. For 10 years, the means of maternal and child protection have decreased by 25%, creating big disparities according to the departments.

In the document submitted by the MP, the situation is likely to worsen further. The reason ? “Two-thirds of PMI doctors will reach retirement age“by next year,” says the report.
This budget should make it possible to open up these structures to other professions such as nutritionists, psychologists or even psychomotor therapists. The objective is in particular to ensure that 100% of three-year-old children can benefit from a health check-up, that the number of pre- and post-natal consultations at home increase.
The exact cost has not yet been established but should be clarified in the fall when the Social Security budget for 2020 is drawn up.
