Women who smoke cannabis before intercourse are 2.1 times more likely to have an orgasm deemed satisfactory.
Smoking to get off. A study published in the newspaper Sexual Medicine shows that cannabis smokers report having better quality orgasms. These results are valid both for those who smoke before intercourse and for those who are regular consumers.
More Desire and More Satisfying Orgasms
The study was carried out by gynecologists and behavioral scientists from St. Louis Medical University, USA. They asked 373 women about their sexual activity and cannabis use: 176 of them were regular users.
68.5% of women who used marijuana before sex said they felt a more pleasurable experience, 60.6% said they had more desire, and 52.8% said they had a more satisfying orgasm. The use of cannabis, before intercourse or on a regular basis, would multiply by 2.1 the chances of having a better quality orgasm, compared to non-consumers.
For the researchers, this could be linked to the soothing effects of cannabis: the reduction of stress and anxiety would increase pleasure. The ability of the drug to disinhibit would also be in question. Research must continue to better understand the link between cannabinoid and hormones, because self-analysis studies are often biased: participants seek to give the “right answer”, and not what they really feel. Scientists are already hoping to find, thanks to this first discovery, treatments for sexual disorders in women.
Risky behaviors
Sex on drugs, however, carries risks. In 2014, the emeVia mutual insurance network conducted a survey of female students: it found that those who use cannabis are more likely to have risky sex. Less than 2/3 of them had declared using a condom.
