A decree relating to the “conditions for dispensing adapted physical activity prescribed by the attending physician to patients suffering from a long-term condition” is published on saturday in the Official Journal.
This decree provides that from next March 1, attending physicians will be able to “prescribe a physical activity adapted to the pathology, the physical capacities and the medical risk” to patients with a long term condition (ALD).
Reduce risk factors due to disease
“The provision of adapted physical activity aims to enable a person to adopt a physically active lifestyle on a regular basis in order to reduce the risk factors and functional limitations associated with the long-term condition whose it is reached. The techniques used relate to physical and sporting activities and are distinguished from rehabilitation acts which are reserved for health professionals, in respect of their skills” underline the text.
Provided for by the health law which comes expand third-party payment for people suffering from ALD, this measure brings the practice of sport into the medical arsenal to help treat or better support long-term illnesses, like cancer. But only the professionals mentioned in the decree, such as masseurs-physiotherapists, occupational therapists or psychomotor therapists will be able to provide these adapted sports sessions.
