Visiting the Rouen University Hospital with Minister of Health Aurélien Rousseau, Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne announced a new measure for the treatment of two everyday illnesses: cystitis and angina.
“As an extension of the twenty already simplified medical procedures (renewal of prescription for glasses at the optician, vaccination against flu or DT polio in pharmacies, etc.), it will be proposed to open up the possibility of going directly to see a pharmacist, who after a rapid diagnostic test, will be able to give antibiotic treatment if it is necessary,” she announced.

Antibiotics at the pharmacist: the procedure to follow
According to this measure, aimed at improving access to care, you should no longer need, in the event of a urinary infection or angina that occurs in the evening or on weekends for example, to clutter the waiting room. emergencies to obtain a prescription.
As had already been foreseen in a decree dated January 12, 2021, you will just have to go to a pharmacist “previously trained for this purpose”, who will verify using a test or a diagnostic tree that it is indeed a simple acute cystitis or of an uncomplicated angina, before giving you the antibiotic treatment. The pharmacist will then inform your attending physician of the delivery of the drugs.
For the moment, no date of entry into force of this measure has been set. Many patients hope that it will be better received by community pharmacists than two years ago, when it was announced by Jean Castex and Olivier Véran.
