Batches of minced salmon sold in supermarkets are potentially contaminated by listeria. Buyers are encouraged to bring their products back to the store.
A small tartare or carpaccio of smoked salmon, very fresh for the summer? The idea is not bad, but for those who have bought minced smoked salmon, you will have to check the labels first.
Batches produced by the company MerAlliance are in fact potentially contaminated by the bacteria Listeria monocytogenes. They are sold in the large distribution chains Monoprix, Leclerc, Auchan, Lidl and Carrefour, in raw or prepared form, and packaged in 100 g packs (see details below)
In case of doubt, the products concerned can be brought back to the store, or destroyed. MerAlliance can be contacted on 0800 86 52 86. A priori, they are all past the use-by date by now, and most of them have already been consumed.
The associated risks
Two symptoms should be watched particularly in people who have consumed it: a high fever, with or without headache. These signs can appear up to 8 weeks after ingesting a contaminated food, so vigilance is always required.
Recalls of this type are relatively frequent in France. Food poisoning is less so. In 2014, just over 370 cases of listeriosis were reported in the country.
Salmon, cheese and cold cuts
Some foods are more at risk than others, such as cheeses and cold meats. In order to reduce the risk of poisoning, ANSES has issued several recommendations for the general public. Leftovers should not be kept longer than three days and should be reheated beforehand.
For fresh products, the rule is different: it is necessary to wash fruits and vegetables before consumption. Any food handled before cooking requires several precautionary measures: washing hands, cleaning surfaces and utensils in contact with it.
The Health Security Agency also recommends regular maintenance of the refrigerator, with the use of bleach. The temperature inside the device should ideally not exceed 4 ° C.
