New judicial twist in the Levothyrox affair. A few months ago, a complaint had been filed for “endangering the life of others, bodily harm and failure to assist a person in danger”. This time, a hundred patients who suffer from side effects due to the new formula of the drug, decided to file a complaint for “influence peddling”.
It is the investigating judge of the health center of Marseille who was seized of the file. The complainants ask him to investigate the alleged conflicts of interest. They wonder in particular about the conditions under which the new formula of Levothyrox was put on the market. “We discover that the person who signed the letter, in February 2012, to request the change of formula, worked for the Merck laboratory several years” underlines Me Gauthier Lefevre, lawyer for the plaintiffs on France Info.
The lawyer also denounces the links between the medical professors heard by the Assembly committee in October and the Merck laboratory: “The people interviewed are almost all relatives or people who worked for the laboratory. And, obviously, when these people are interviewed, they fail to say so.”.
