Only 3 out of the 20 brands of laundry tested by 60 million consumers do not contain allergenic substances.
They wash “whiter than white,” Coluche joked, talking about the laundry. Effective, they still are. But in its latest issue, the magazine 60 million consumers denounces the presence of allergenic substances in these products. “Detergents are products of chemistry, which is not always the friend of man and nature”, decide the authors of the file.
Overall, brands are trying to avoid substances that can trigger long-lasting allergies, the test reveals. They are mainly contained in perfumes – such as linalool or geraniol – and preservatives – such as methylisothiazolinone.
Other labels are less cautious and claim to develop “hypoallergenic” or “for sensitive skin” products. In fact, out of the 20 products tested, only 3 do not contain allergenic agents (Leader Price, soluble detergent; Ecover Zero; Rainett Ecologique, authentic Marseille soap). The capsules contain less because they degrade less easily, however 60 million.
Other questionable compounds
But the results remain negative overall: contact allergies and eczema represent a real risk in the “Laundry care” section… and the effects can occur with delay. Isothiazolinones are at the top of the problematic substances. “The positive point is that the detergents from our trial manage to do without them without other preservatives problematic for health being incorporated as substitutes (Auchan capsules, Ariel capsules, Carrefour, Ecover, Leader Price, Le Chat, Rainett) », Specifies the file.
Allergenic perfumes are commonplace even if some brands manage to do without them. 60 million highlights the presence of other questionable compounds, such as the dye rhodamine B – suspected of being carcinogenic – and phenoxyethanol – a preservative that acts on the liver.
