Loneliness is a public health issue that is difficult to quantify. Suffering is often invisible because it is taboo and therefore difficult to express for those affected. The public authorities are starting to take into account this societal reality which affects all populations, regardless of age and social categories. In Great Britain, the issue is considered sensitive so that a Ministry of Solitude has just been created. And in France ? The subject is more and more at the heart of discussions and will be on the agenda on Tuesday 23 January during the first Loneliness Day.
Organized by the Astrée association for assistance against isolation, in partnership with associations and media such as Full life, the event is supported by Agnès Buzyn, Minister of Solidarity and Health. The objective of this initiative: to strike the conscience by sensitizing the opinion to a worrying reality which touches more and more French people. A few figures illustrate the scale of the phenomenon: 12% of the French population suffers from loneliness according to the report by La Fondation de France(2014). No one is safe from knowing this situation of isolation since one in three people is likely to experience this situation of confinement, according to the report.
An inventory and proposals
The round tables organized in Paris before being deployed in ten other cities of France (Lille, Rennes, Nantes, Lyon, Saint-Etienne, Bordeaux, Montpellier, Marseille, Aix-en-Provence and Toulouse), will also focus on the presentation innovative and concrete social solutions, but also the exchange and sharing of experiences to help people in solitary situations.
