One of the most popular cars in the Netherlands has been renewed
The Netherlands loves the Kia Niro. The car drives modestly and unobtrusively through the Dutch traffic, but just notice how many Niro’s drive here. The sales figures confirm this, because the Niro is often in the top five and regularly even number one of the monthly sales. And logical, because if you want an electric car with favorable specifications and a good price, then you will quickly come to Hyundai or Kia. The Niro is also available as a hybrid and plug-in hybrid. One of the most popular cars in the Netherlands has now been redesigned – and it has become a lot more striking.
Sideblades on the Niro
What stands out even more than the rest of the new Niro are the black parts on the side. These are somehow reminiscent of the sideblades of the first generation Audi R8. Such a wide c-pillar is also an important style element for the Volkswagen Golf, with some enthusiasts sometimes performing it in a contrasting color. Coincidence or inspiration, you name it. Another design element for the Kia Niro is the ‘tiger face’ at the front, an evolution of the ‘tiger nose grille’ that the petrol cars had.
Something is recycled
The headliner in the Kia Niro is made from recycled wallpaper. We immediately wonder: where can you find specific old wallpaper? We always do that with the paper. Well, the seats are upholstered with fabric made from eucalyptus leaves, among other things. The lacquer on the door panels is without benzene, toluene or xylene isomeric, which seems to be better for the environment. The rest of the car apparently has paint with these nasty dusts. We’re a bit giggly about it (tall trees, that’s okay), but it’s obviously a good thing that Kia is looking at the impact of production.
The Kia Niro: the price and the engines
The price of the Kia Niro is not yet known, as are all the final specifications. The brand does let us know that the Niro will come again as a hybrid without a plug, a hybrid with a plug and as a fully electric car. So in that respect, little will change. We bet that the engine specs will not deviate much from the current version, but that the PHEV and EV in particular will come further than first after a visit to the charging station.
