iRobot announces smart system for robot vacuum cleaners

iRobot, known for the Roomba vacuum cleaners, announces iRobot OS. This is a smart system for autonomous robot vacuums and mops.

With iRobot OS, the company is building on the foundation of the Genius Home Intelligence platform, which the company’s products have previously worked with.

Some of the robot vacuums iRobot OS works with are the Roomba j7 and Roomba j7+. The system already available allows them to avoid shoes, socks, cords, headphones, clothes, towels and pet feces.

With a computer vision platform capable of recognizing more than 80 common objects, iRobot OS will enable the Roomba j7 series to recognize and avoid even more objects in the future.

With about six hundred supported Alexa, Google Assistant and Siri commands, iRobot OS offers many options regarding voice-activated cleaning options. Robots running iRobot OS can clean specific rooms using speech and can be commanded to clean targeted areas, such as “around the couch”.

“All this is just the beginning,” said Colin Angle, chairman and CEO of iRobot. “We look forward to building on iRobot OS and bringing even more thoughtful cleaning approaches to our customers in the coming months and years.”
