Better detected, better treated, cancer remains a subject of daily study. On the occasion of World Cancer Day, the National Cancer Institute (INCa) draws up 2014 review. While the incidence of cancer is declining among men (- 1.3%), it continues to increase at a slower pace among women (+ 0.2%).
Cancer is less and less synonymous with long hospital stays. The vast majority of cases are treated with chemotherapy, carried out in day hospitals. As the surgeries are less invasive, they also allow outpatient care. Moreover, this type of hospitalization has increased by 28% in oncology.
Despite progress in terms of treatment, patient mortality remains variable. Pleural mesothelioma and liver cancer remain extremely virulent, while testicular or thyroid cancer is increasingly cured.
