The Department of Research, Studies, Evaluation and Statistics (Dress) published this Thursday, February 12, its report on “The state of health of the population in France”, 2015 edition.
Overall, the report reveals that the health and life expectancy of the French are improving, even if regional and socio-professional inequalities persist.
Thus, the North of France and the overseas departments are the poorest and worst off in the health sector. In particular, infant mortality in the overseas departments, which is 5 points higher than that measured in mainland France. The prevalence of overweight andobesity is also more important on the islands.
On the other hand, France keeps its reputation of champion country of the birth rate, with 800,000 births per year since 2005 or 2.01 children per woman (against 1.38 in Germany and 1.90 in Great Britain).
