Why aches appear after a sports session?
There is nothing abnormal in suffering from body aches after a physical training or an unusual muscular effort. If your muscles stiffen up and become a source of pain, this is actually a healthy signal. Sore muscles have been subjected to intensive effort, which has caused micro-tears. Aches therefore indicate that the area you have worked on is strengthening and repairing itself.
Which areas of the body are most susceptible to body aches?
Body aches appear most often at the level of the legs after a workout. In the majority of sports, the thighs and calves remain highly stressed.
Muscles arms, buttocks and stomach can also become painful depending on the activity performed.
Note that the aches are at their strongest 48 hours after muscular effortthen gradually disappear in a few days.
How to avoid aches?
Before your sports activity, warm up for ten minutes. Your muscles must prepare to face the effort. However, be sure to follow up immediately with your sports session, so as not to lose any of the benefits of your warm-up.
Another key: hydrate before, during and after exercise. Water transports carbohydrates which are transformed into glycogen, the main source of energy for the muscles. Hydration also oxygenates muscle fibers. A dehydrated muscle is more exposed to the risks of microlesions of the muscle fibers leading to aches. It is therefore important to drink before and during exercise. And very important: do not wait to be thirsty to hydrate.
After exercise, continue to hydrate yourself, especially if your body aches are painful and favor mineralized water rich in bicarbonates.
