Length, circumference and cross-section
Everyone knows their insecurities, but with men that uncertainty is regularly in the pants. A penis that is too short, thin or crooked: every man has measured his genitals at some point. And if not, then they have sometimes done comparative research under the shower at the gym, football or gym.
To know whether you do meet the standard, it is first important to measure the length of the penis properly. You do this by measuring it at the top (abdomen side) in both floppy and stiff condition. From your pubic bone, where the penis begins, to the tip of the glans. The circumference is measured at the thickest part.
Normal
The penis of an adult man is on average 9.8 centimeters relaxed and 14.8 centimeters when erect. A flaccid of 6 to 11 centimeters and a stiff of 11 to 20 centimeters is considered ‘normal’. If a penis in relaxed state is smaller than 3.8 centimeters, we call this a micropenis. A penis larger than 11.5 centimeters is considered large. With a stiff genitals this is 7 and 21 centimeters.
The circumference of a penis is on average between 9.5 and 12 centimeters. The diameter of the average penis is 3.2 centimeters when relaxed and 4.1 centimeters when erect.
Grow
There is no clear correlation between the length of a flaccid penis and one at full war strength. So the size of the penis when flaccid says nothing about how long it will be when it is erect. Research has shown that a small flaccid penis enlarges about twice as much as a long flaccid penis.
shoe size
It is not fully known which factors influence the size of the penis. Ethnicity certainly seems to be an important factor: Asians have the smallest penis on average, black men the largest. It is not clear whether body size plays a role. The taller the man, the bigger the penis often, but not always. Furthermore, there seems to be a connection between a high BMI and a shorter penis.
It is not necessarily untrue that the shoe size and finger length say something about the penis. For example, the longer the (index) finger, the greater the chance of a longer penis. The hormone testosterone seems to play a role in this. More testosterone leads to longer fingers and penis. The same goes for the nose, which also grows under the influence of testosterone.
Shrink
During puberty, the penis grows. When the maximum is reached varies per person. Shrinking is also an issue. With age, the erect penis often becomes one or two centimeters shorter. This is caused by arteriosclerosis and the development of scar tissue.
The penis shrinks even in cold weather and low temperatures. There are also indications that the penis in general gradually shrinks.
Extend
In men with a micropenis, surgery is sometimes performed to lengthen the penis. With the help of the operation, a few centimeters gain can often be achieved. The difference is often not spectacular, but can make a big difference for some people. Especially if there are sexual problems.
