The emergency department at Hôtel-Dieu will be put back into service for light care. Martin Hirsch announces a “bi-site” operation of emergencies with Cochin hospital from 2015.
The return of emergencies to the Hôtel-Dieu? Not immediately and not for everyone, but a reorganization is announced. On the occasion of the Supervisory Board of the Public Assistance of Paris Hospitals (AP-HP), on June 19, Martin Hirsch specified the place of the Hôtel-Dieu in the “emergency improvement strategy. “
The AP-HP has set itself the objective of improving the organization of Parisian emergencies by 2019. For this, it claims to draw lessons from the reports on the downstream of emergencies, winter periods and the transformation of the Hotel -God. The latter should also benefit from a special place within the various structures, and take an aspect “complementary to the current hospital offer of the establishments of the AP-HP”, according to a press release.
Emergencies dedicated to light care
The Hôtel-Dieu “will receive the vast majority of outpatients, without excluding responses to targeted hospitalization needs, in particular to meet the needs of the elderly in the heart of Paris, in psychiatry and in follow-up and rehabilitation care. », Specifies the press release. The AP-HP in fact provides for a “two-site operation with the Cochin hospital. The firefighters and the SAMU will again be able to refer patients to the Hôtel-Dieu, as soon as they do not require heavy care. For this, it will first be necessary for the emergency call regulation project to be effective. Loïc Capron, the president of the medical commission of the AP-HP, specifies that Martin Hirsh would be interested in a scenario: “the Paris fire brigade (BSPP) would carry out a pre-hospital triage between serious patients , to be referred to a classic emergency department, and less affected patients who could be taken to the Hôtel-Dieu. This would imply the establishment of a medical regulation of the BSPP rescue teams, coordinated with that of the Samu (call of the 15th), as we have dreamed of it for several decades “.
Among the other restructuring projects of the Hôtel-Dieu, “public health activities” and clinical research are announced. The establishment should also accommodate support for medical and hospital activity, as well as housing and social services. A total reconversion, since last November, the emergency department was replaced by a consultation center open 24 hours a day, and only welcoming patients who came by their own means.
