France stands out for the quality of its care and its health system. But for how long ? According to an Odoxa survey conducted for the French Hospital Federation (FHF), the French are alarmed about the future of the hospital system. Many of them are thus very pessimistic.
The survey shows that three quarters (75%) of respondents believe that the quality of care provided by health facilities will deteriorate in the future. According to 67% of those questioned, the public authorities do not sufficiently take into account the crucial question of the future of healthcare establishments.
Priority to health
Despite doubts, more than seven in ten French people think that France is the European country which best guarantees access to public hospitals, ahead of Germany (16%). For two thirds of respondents, France offers the best hospital care. 56% of them believe that the way in which the patient care pathway unfolds today – between the referring physician, specialists and public hospitals – is unfolding satisfactorily.
These pessimistic French people almost all think (94%) that health should be a priority for funding and investment. More than half (54%) perceive with fear the use of teleconsultation (remote consultation) and in the same proportion, the development of the use of “big data” (processing of stored data) in health.
As for the issue of access to healthcare, three quarters of respondents think that the regions should play a more important role in the governance of the health system. Almost half (47%) also prefer to have access to “several small hospitals potentially closer to home, but which do not have all the specialties or means to treat all health problems”.
