The European Commission has launched the second phase of one of the biggest public health awareness initiatives: “HELP – For a life without tobacco”, this weekend, on World No Tobacco Day. Based on your own experience or if you have an idea that could help, she suggests you give your tips: not to start smoking, to quit smoking or to no longer suffer from passive smoking, on her site: www.help-eu.com
Smoking remains a top priority for the European Commission. This anti-smoking communication campaign, developed in the 27 Member States of the European Union, focuses on the themes of prevention, cessation and passive smoking. According to European Health Commissioner Androulla Vassiliou, “a third of Europeans still smoke today and, even though this figure has been declining for a few years, we must continue to dissuade young people from adopting this deadly habit. Thanks. to our graphic warnings and to the participation of young people in the HELP campaign, I hope that we will succeed in removing all appeal from tobacco consumption and in convincing the new generation to turn their backs on it.
The European Commission plans to renew these warnings in 2010.
