October 17, 2008 – Users and employees of Sainte-Justine Hospital can now choose healthy and nutritious foods from the new vending machines, located at the main entrance and near the emergency room.
The recent inauguration of these vending machines marks the start of a series of actions to encourage visitors and staff to adopt better eating habits.
Fruits, vegetables, low-fat dairy products, whole grain products, water, and fruit and vegetable juices are now on the menu of these new machines. There are also specially identified sections, in particular the one intended for children aged 1 to 3, which includes products adapted to their nutritional needs.
Users can also obtain additional information on the products offered through a touch screen and an on-site leaflet. This project was specially designed for children by a team of dietitians from CHU Sainte-Justine.
This initiative is the result of the work carried out by the Center of Excellence in Health Promotion at CHU Sainte-Justine, in collaboration with the Lucie and André Chagnon Foundation and the Sainte-Justine Foundation.
The Professional Order of Dietitians of Quebec paid tribute to this “fine example to follow” in promoting healthy lifestyles.
