People claiming to have seen or, worse, been abducted by aliens might have simply dreamed of the experience.
- Lucid dreams are dreams that seem so real that people believe they really happened.
- Some people are able to control their dreams.
- Dreaming about aliens can cause great fear and paralysis which can be so overwhelming that the person experiencing them thinks they are real.
The question of UFOs and possible extraterrestrial life continues to be the subject of much debate. On June 25, the publication of a report by the American intelligence services, which lists incidents that occurred between 2004 and 2021, estimated that there is no proof of life outside our planet while recognizing that dozens of phenomena observed by military pilots could not be explained.
Lucid dreamers who are able to control their dreams
In a recent study, published on July 2 in theInternational Journal of Dream Research, Russian researchers from the Phase Research Center in Moscow say people who claim to have seen or been abducted by extraterrestrials may have simply dreamed of the experience. These would be what are called “lucid dreams”, dreams that seem so real that people believe they really happened. It would even be possible to control these oneiric dreams. In October 2017, in a study published in the journal DreamingAustralian researchers from the University of Adelaide have insisted on three techniques for achieving such a feat: doing a reality check, voluntarily interrupting your sleep and self-convincing that you will remember your next dream.
For their research, the Russian scientists began by noting that many people who report such encounters also report feeling like they are in a dreamlike state and many have reported feeling paralyzed. An observation that put the flea in their ears on the fact of being in the presence of possible “lucid dreams”. To verify this, they called on 152 adult volunteers who described themselves as lucid dreamers, people who were able to control the action of their dreams. They asked each of the volunteers to try dreaming about alien encounters and asked them about their dreams right after they woke up.
paralysis and great fear
Examining their data, the researchers found that 114 of the volunteers successfully dreamed of an alien encounter. Almost a third (61%) said the alien in their dreams resembled aliens they had seen in movies or on TV and 19% of them had encountered aliens who looked like beings humans. They also found that 12% of volunteers had a conversation with an alien in their dreams. Also, UFOs appeared in 28% of dreams, with 10% of dreamers visiting the alien spacecraft.
What struck the authors the most was that 24% of those who described their dream as realistic also experienced paralysis and great fear, very similar to the testimonies reported by many people claiming to have encountered extraterrestrials. Researchers suggest that such feelings can be so overwhelming that the person experiencing them thinks they really happened.
