A ten-year-old girl swallowed part of her hand spinner. His mother warns of the dangers of this popular toy.
It is all the rage in the playgrounds. The hand spinner, purely fun object or anti-stress game for agitated children, the debate is still not settled, but it is still possible that it can also prove to be dangerous. In Texas, a mother echoed the misadventure that happened to her 10-year-old daughter, a lover of these three-celled tops that can be turned between her fingers.
Britton indeed had to be operated after swallowing a part of his hand spinner. On Facebook, the mother recounts the great fear she had, and which only the children have the secret.
A ring in the esophagus
“We were in the car when I suddenly heard Britton make a funny noise in the back. In the rearview mirror, I see that she turns all red, and that she tries to get something out of her mouth. I immediately stopped. She was showing her throat, saying she had swallowed something. She had put a piece of her hand spinner in her mouth to clean it and a piece came off ”.
The mother therefore rushed to the emergency room, where an X-ray confirmed the diagnosis: a large metal ring lodged in the little girl’s esophagus. Britton had to undergo an endoscopy in order to dislodge the toy tip from his throat.
In the end, more fear than harm, therefore. But the mother wants to warn about the potential dangers of hand spinners. “They are very popular right now, so everyone wants one,” she said, urging adults to be extremely careful. Antistress, the top? Not for everyone!
