Swaddling reassures babies
A forgotten time, swaddling is back in force. Its virtues? Reassure the baby by containing it. Today there are “swaddling blankets”, but a large enough fabric (70 x 70 cm) works just as well. The swaddling must however be done in the rules of the art: the baby must be in a physiological position, the palms placed on the front of the thighs or on the chest, and never the arms held alongside the body.
Manual :
• Place the fabric on a bed and rest your baby in the middle, his shoulders on the top edge of the fabric.
• Bring the left edge of the fabric to the other side of the baby, taking care to place his arms in the correct position. Pass the fabric under the baby.
• Do the same on the other side.
• Bring the bottom of the fabric up to the front.
To be practiced only before 3 months.
Green clay to soften
In “The Guide to take care of my child naturally” (ed. Nathan), Dr Christine Coquart advises green clay water to relieve colic in infants.
Recipe :
• Put 1 rounded tablespoon of organic green clay in 1 glass of water.
• Stir and then allow to settle overnight or for a day.
• Collect the clay water with a pipette, without stirring (the powder should remain at the bottom), and give your baby a few sips before each meal.
THE position to relieve colic
Generations of parents follow one another … but their actions are often similar! Thus, it is a particularly effective position to relieve colic: place your baby face down on your forearm, his head in your hand, legs and arms hanging down. Walk around calmly, rocking it gently. In general, keep your baby’s tummy warm (with a cloth or hot water bottle), including when you bottle or breastfeed. An infusion of fennel and lemon balm calms spasms.
“If the baby accepts it, an infusion of fennel and / or lemon balm is useful in case of colic. Lemon balm is calming and antispasmodic “, explains Carole Minker, pharmacist and author of” 200 plants that want you good “(ed. Larousse).
Recipe :
• In 1 cup of simmering water, let infuse for about ten minutes 1 teaspoonful of plants (fennel and / or lemon balm).
• Filter and then give your baby to drink from a bottle throughout the day.
Ayurvedic remedy practiced in India against colic: 1 drop of mustard vegetable oil in the baby’s navel to relieve it.
Belly massage soothes baby
Massages, through their mechanical action on transit and their ability to reassure the baby through the contact and warmth of the hands, help relieve colic. In a calm atmosphere, heat some sweet almond oil or liniment in your hands, then massage your baby with circular movements around the navel, in a clockwise direction (to activate the transit). In her guide, Dr Christine Coquart suggests adding 1 drop of basil essential oil in vegetable oil or liniment in order to optimize the soothing effects of massage.
To breast or bottle feed, get your baby as upright as possible. It will thus swallow less air. For the same reason, opt for a smaller bottle.
