About fifty young women, believing themselves to be victims of the vaccine against the human papillomavirus Gardasil, marketed by the Sanofi Pasteur MSD laboratory, had filed a criminal complaint for “unintentional bodily harm and aggravated deception”.
Gardasil vaccine is a vaccine indicated for the prevention of diseases caused by human papillomavirus (HPV), such as Cervical cancer, precancerous lesions of the vagina or genital warts. It has been questioned by young women, particularly in the occurrence of multiple sclerosis, lupus, acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (inflammation of the central nervous system) and macrophage myofasciitis (a disease that results in muscle pain and chronic fatigue).
ANSM reiterated its confidence in the vaccine
The vaccine survey Gardasil has just been closed by the Paris prosecutor’s office who considered that there was no direct link between this vaccine and the pathologies of the nervous system denounced by the patients, after a reassuring study by the drug agency . “This decision confirms that the questioning of the Gardasil vaccine was unfounded “, greeted the Sanofi Pasteur MSD group in a press release, recalling that it is “in line with the positions of French and international health authorities which recommend vaccination with Gardasil”.
In April 2014, the National Medicines Safety Agency reiterated its confidence in the vaccine, estimating that the number of manifestations of autoimmune diseases “remains low in relation to the exposed population: 127 cases notified in France including 17 cases of multiple sclerosis, since the start of marketing” then declared the agency in its update of security data.
“Our fight is not over,” responded the lawyer for 34 plaintiffs, Jean-Christophe Courbis. He will file a complaint with the constitution of civil party to obtain the opening of a judicial investigation and the appointment of investigating judges.
