France Alzheimer is opening an interactive village to support patients and caregivers in their search for information and in their procedures.
October 6 will be the national day of caregivers, who are more than 11 million in France. Among them, many are those who take care of a person suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. To relieve them and guide them in their complicated journey, France Alzheimer and related diseases has posted a support portal, Aides Alzheimer.
“After an assessment of the needs of caregivers registered in the online guide, it very quickly became apparent the need to design a module on assistance and support systems, whether social, legal, financial or whether it is a question of identifying reception and accommodation structures, explains Virginie Cottin, project manager for the training of caregivers at the association.
Caregivers are not alone in the world
The site is presented in the form of a map of a city on an island. The buildings – library, hospital, house, business district – refer with a simple click to videos or useful information on the course of care, the responsibilities and rights of carers, etc. Anything that might be useful.

The goal: to ease the process for families or people of trust who would like to get information effectively. A few questions first allow visitors to the site to be identified and better directed: patient or sick, over or under 60, living environment.
“The objective of this module is to answer the many questions from carers about assistance systems and therefore to give concrete advice, contact details and information on the steps to be taken for home support, respite solutions, establishments,” says Virginie Cottin.
